DAY 2 | Beijing

Following breakfast, you will visit the Tian An Men Square which is the largest public square in the world, which can hold one million people. Tiananmen Square is the symbolical heart of China and gathering place for the masses.  You will also see legendary landmarks including the Great Hall of the People and the towering 125 foot granite obelisk, Monument to the Peoples Heroes, honoring those who died in revolution.

You will then visit the Imperial Palace known as the Forbidden City, China’s traditional symbol and a masterpiece of classical architecture.  It has 9000-room maze of courtyards, places, and ceremonial halls, where 24 emperors used to live.  Forbidden City was indeed a forbidden place, where commoners were kept out for nearly 500 years in the past.  Tour the palace and imagine the mystery, intrigue and incredible power that reigned here.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. You will visit the Summer Palace, the summer residence of the emperors located about ten kilometers northeast of the city before returning to your hotel.

DAY 3 | Beijing

After breakfast, you will head off to the world-famous Great Wall at Mutianyu (cable car is not included), a colossal architectural work designed for defensive purposes and communication over 6,000 kilometers. The Great Wall, one of the most remarkable feat of mankind, whose segments were built as long ago as 500 B.C. Archaeologists estimate that the wall once ran 6200 miles; today it is still impressive at 3,750 miles.  Serious work began in 220 B.C, when China’s first emperor Qin Shihuang, conscripted millions of soldiers and peasants to participate in this dangerous undertaking.  Constructions continued over the centuries, with the most impressive portions built during the 14th century Ming Dynasty.

You will have 3 hours to wander around Mutianyu Great Wall. It is very exciting to take the cable car up and down (at your own cost).

Mutianyu section is a bit more rugged and slightly less crowded than the more famous Badaling. Moreover, 96% of Mutianyu is covered with greenery, more than any other section of the Great Wall. This section of the Great Wall holds a prominent place in Chinese military history and now, it is equipped with cable car.

Enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant. In the late afternoon, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

DAY 7 | Guilin – Yangshuo – Guilin

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the pier and board a Li River Cruise to Yangshou.

Yangshuo lies to the southeast of Guilin City. The special geography gives it breathtaking beauty while over 1,400 years of history bless it with a deep traditional culture. The diverse ethnic minority groups including Hui, Zhuang, Yao and others, enrich it with special folk cultures meanwhile many foreign residents add exotic flavors to its fascination.

The famous Li River traverses the county and brings it the most beautiful scenery. Along the extremely pure river, thousands of hills stand in different poses and with different expressions. Streets in Yangshuo are well kept in the original style, presenting the simple and primitive atmosphere of the ancient town. West Street is the most exciting one that locals call the ‘Global Village’. The breathtaking section of the River Li between Guilin and Yangshuo has long held an alluring attraction to visitors over the years due the mesmerizing scenery provided by the dramatic lime stone ridges, known as ‘karsts’, that dominate the area. Cruise through the scenery of dramatic limestone karsts rising majestically from the water’s edge and lush rice paddies, witnessing peaceful rural river life along the way.

A lunch box is enjoyed on board as we head to the village of Yangshuo. You will have time at leisure in Yangshuoto to explore West Street after you disembark the cruise or opt for an optional tour (not included) that will take you on a bamboo raft to Shi Wai Tao Yuan, an idyllic garden filled with lotus ponds and peach blossoms. Afterwards, you will return to Guilin.

DAY 9 | Shanghai

Following breakfast, you will be picked up and head to Shanghai Old Street for sightseeing.

You will also visit the Yu Garden. Yuyuan Garden is the only fully restored classical Chinese garden in Shanghai. It was inaugurated in the Ming dynasty and has a total area of 20,000 square meters.

Although the garden occupies less than five acres, demonstrates perfectly the sophisticated art of combining several different elements to create a world in miniature – ingeniously mingling pavilions and corridors, small hills and carefully selected and well-placed rocks, lotus ponds, bridges, winding paths, and trees and shrubs.

A short stop will be made at the Yu Garden Typical Shanghai Tea House. You will also have the opporunity to stroll along Bund. Bund is still evocative of Shanghai’s past where, during the city’s riotous heyday, these buildings housed the great foreign enterprises. Your guide will point out the most prominent buildings of old Shanghai’s commercial heart including the former British and Russian Consulates, the former Jardine Matheson Company, the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank and the Shanghai Club.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. We continue the tour at the Shanghai Museum, a large museum of ancient Chinese art with collection of over 120,000 items of cultural relics displayed on a floor space of 12,000 sq. The museum style and presentation surround visitors with artifacts demonstrating ancient wisdom and philosophy. The exterior design of the round dome and the square base symbolizes the ancient idea of a round heaven and a square land.
