Upon arrival in Managua, you will be met by a representative and escorted to your hotel in Granada. After checking in, you have the rest of the day at leisure to begin your exploration of the city, which is the third oldest settlement in the Western Hemisphere. Alternatively, enjoy the amenities of your hotel or just relax and rest up from your travels.
Join us in exploring and discovering the famous city of Granada established in 1524 by the Spaniard, Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba, and the oldest colonial city on mainland America and considered one of the prettiest cities in Latin America. Visit relevant sites and colonial buildings as well as the San Francisco Convent and Church founded in 1524, which preserves some of the most interesting indigenous ceramic and statue collections. You will hear stories from real pirates, like the infamous Henry Morgan, and their adventures in civil war stories that burned to ashes sacked and destroyed the city several times. You will also visit archeological treasures from Isla Zapatera, a primitive art exhibit, and historical display, La Polvora Fort, a warehouse built in 1748 to keep gunpowder. You will visit its old towers, which give you a beautiful view of the city. You will visit Xalteva Church where the Spaniards met the indigenous Xalteva population, from which it gets its name. This is the most antique part of Granada. The church was built during colonial times and because of its location, it was also used as a military fort.
Following breakfast at your hotel, you will continue your explorations of Nicaragua with a visit to the country’s first national park, Masaya Volcano National Park. After an orientation at the interpretive center, you will travel to the summit of the volcano for panoramic views of the crater and the surrounding landscape. Descend the slopes of the volcano to browse the handmade wares at the Masaya arts and crafts market.
Ometepe is currently one of the destinations admired by both local and international tourists for its nature, hospitality, beautiful landscapes, the two volcanoes, a rich archeological background, relaxing beaches, and its numerous nature reserves and forests that enjoy a high biodiversity.
Take an unforgettable journey to one of the most beautiful places of Nicaragua. Ometepe Island is the biggest island in the world on a freshwater lake. Experience the lifestyle of the islander while visiting the Altagracia Church, a museum, pre-Columbian stone statues, Santa Domingo’s beach petroglyphs, and Charco Verde’s hiking trails. Chorotega, Nahuatl, and Mayans left a multitude of pre-Columbian artifacts spread all over the island, and Ometepe is considered one of the great rock art areas of the world due to the stone idols and many petroglyphs carved on basalt boulders.
Begin your morning with breakfast at your hotel. Today, you will be transferred to San Juan del Sur. This is an obligatory stopover for almost every traveler seeking for relaxation and lots of surfing on unspoiled beaches.
