Peru: Machu Picchu & Lake Titicaca

Upon arrival at the airport, our host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel.
Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco (not included, to be booked by agent). Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, your exclusive city tour starts with a visit to the San Cristobal Plaza to enjoy its panoramic view of the city. You will visit the San Pedro Market to soak in its local flavors and to learn about more of the products grown in the area which supply the whole city. Afterwards, you will visit the Korikancha Temple, or “Gold Enclosure”, which surely will dazzle you with its gold covered walls. The tour continues with a visit to the Santo Domingo Church. You will walk from San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, to the Hatun Rumiyoc Street. You will stop at the Inca Roca Palace, nowadays, home to the Archbishop’s Palace and the famous Twelve Angle Stone. You will continue the tour by walking to the Main Square to visit the cathedral and its and beautiful colonial masterpieces.
Have breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a full day tour to the Indian Market of Pisac and the Fortress of Ollantaytambo. Pisac is located at the beginning of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, it is 31 kilometers from the city of Cusco. The town of Pisac is famous for its Sunday market fairs, where tourists can mix with the people dressed in their colorful traditional clothes, each being unique to the remote village from where they come to sell their goods and exchange local gossip. Here, people quite often still use the barter system, trading oranges for apples, potatoes for cucumbers. It is also a well-known archaeological spot known as ``The Old Village``, located on the sides of a hill dominating the river, Vilcanota, where you can marvel at the splendid old forts, esplanades, and temples alongside the modern village. The town of Ollantaytambo is located 97 kilometers from the city of Cusco. It has preserved the Inca style in the layout of its streets, squares, walls, and the construction of houses. The town is flanked by an impressive fortress that was an integral part defense system of the Sacred Valley.
Following breakfast, you will take a train ride through the sacred valley of Urubamba to the ``Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu. Perched 8,200 feet above the valley, it was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for 400 years until discovered by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Archaeologists believe that the Inca ``Virgins of the Sun``, women who vowed chastity, took refuge from the Spanish Conquistadors here. You receive a lunch box before enjoying the most incredible sights on earth, the sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Take as much time as you need to study these magnificent ruins. You have time at leisure before to returning to your hotel in Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast, do as you please with your free time. You may rest or take another visit to the ruins. At an arranged time, you will return via train to Cusco. Once at Cusco, you will be transferred from the train station via a bus to the hotel.
Following breakfast, you will depart on a tour bus to Puno. On the way, you’ll stop to visit the attractions this lovely route has to offer. The first stop is Andahuaylillas for a visit to its beautiful chapel. The tour resumes with a visit to the Temple of the Wiracocha where the walls and narrow streets stand out. At this point in the day, you will be provided with lunch and the opportunity to see the view at La Raya, the natural border between Cusco and Puno. Before the final destination, you will visit the Pucara Museum and a have a chance to get one of the local classic bull-shaped ceramics. By the end of the afternoon, you will arrive in Puno.
Be ready for a full day tour to explore Lake Titicaca after breakfast. First, you will visit the Uros, the friendly inhabitants of these handmade islands made of totora reeds. Afterwards, you are off to Taquile Island, a place in which the settlers still maintain their ancestral traditions and colorful traditional clothes. It is a great opportunity to explore the island and get the best view of the lake. A lunch box is provided in the island. You will return to the city in the afternoon. Overnight in Puno
Transfer to the airport for your departure to Lima (flight not included, to be booked by agent) and your connecting international flight after breakfast.
